Appios
"Nothing you say can make me any weaker, see?"

Name: Appios Aculeo
Age: Five
Gender: Male
Pack: The Velka
Rank: Beta Male
Other: Anything else?
Short personality description: Witty, snippy, sarcastic, strict, fair.
A Quick Glance in the Mirror||
Looks/Attributes: Appios has long, thick and white fur, ears standing amidst the thick, seemingly two-later coat on his head. His neck, belly, and tail seems to have the most amount, and help protect the male from attacks-- however, it can't stop any wolf if they really wanted to. His eyes are a absolute pitch-black, and seem to deal with the nightmares he gives out. His back and front legs are as muscled as any male's, and his tail is long and fluffy; typically very dirty from it being very limp most of the time. Appios' physical would come out as more lean then muscled, even though his thick fur suggests otherwise, and that lean frame allows him to run for fairly long distances. Typically, Appios grooms his fur by himself, but lately he has been growing a bit restless-- leaving it 'till the end of the day for even one lick of the fur. The male has a fair-muscled jaw, the teeth quite able to rip into other things just like any other wolf.
The white fur Appios has contradicts his personality, which is sarcastic, and a bit of a jerk most of the time. Sometimes, the male can even be a bit of a coward, and be driven into things merely by fear-- but that has rarely happened, and if it has, it has by the Alpha's. But either way, the white fur seems at odds with the eyes that he has; pitch-black holes in the midst of normally-snow-like fur. They reveal just what the male is, even if he can be friendly. He's learned that guarding the heart means being sarcastic, blunt, and not having very many friends...so he copes. He deals with many questions from himself, and he's a bit short-- making it so that running fast is slightly hindered, but has the strength to take down what he needs to.
Height: Thirty-one inches
Weight: 175 pounds

More?||
Personality: Appios is also blunt; having no tact with words, and more then likely will tell the truth every time he is questioned. This doesn't mean he wont lie when it benefits him, but he wont lie when it's about your appearance or how well you did. In reality, the male is quite the reality-check, and will try to pop every single ego-pimple out there, whether subtly (doubtful), or quite outright. It's not a bad thing, for if you did do good, he'll tell you straight out. But you had better make sure that you did do excellent before going around to brag. But why brag? If wolves talk about you without you talking about yourself, then you have even more prestige then when you started out, so why not leave it to word of mouth?
Sarcasm. The male is fluent in it, and if you say something right back, he'll smirk/grin, and shoot something back. Most likely snippy, but more then likely harsh and not needed. He can place little hidden sarcasm sentences where nobody figures then out until hours-- maybe even days-- later. But then, he could be so blatantly obvious, that many wolves growl. This is why the wolf basically has no friends, as all the ones he does have gotten tested on with ideas. But you must realize, however, that he doesn't typically do this.
Obedient. Despite all this, Appios is obedient to his authority figures. He'll do whatever they say, quickly and efficiently, and without complaint. Because if he gets it done quickly, and without complaint, then he's able to get back to whatever he was doing. The male isn't looking to advance his position, although it would be nice, and he isn't looking to kill anyone in the pack for power. However, he can be bought to do something if the price is right. And then, like what he does for the leaders, he'll obey quite easily. This hasn't happened, but who knows? Who knows what will happen around there.
To be quite short, Appios Aculeo is a jerk, sarcastic, witty, obedient, and willing jerk, but a jerk nonetheless. If you can become friends with him, then more power to you, but more then likely you'll simply become a test subject for his new ideas. Sometimes these are pranks, but it's been told that the male has a moody attitude, and can switch from smirky to hatred, to actually friendly, although friendly has rarely come out lately. Who knows? Like what was said before, who knows what will happen? Appios might just show that friendly side again if he feels gracious.

History: Pup. Appios' history is a normal one (as normal as one gets with horrible nightmares that the male has yet to learn how to control) with two parents (albeit ones that looked odd, and acted odd-er) and two siblings. The mother and father never told their names to their children, so they were known as 'The Mother', and 'The Father'. In that order, for The Mother was stronger then The Father, for some reason unknown to the cubs. She would say things that were just plain weird, and, other then force-feeding the pups, and having a temper, The Father put up with her. This became known as PupHood. The three males were taught that females were better then the males, for they had a higher intelligence, and, for awhile, the males believed it until they found another family with exactly opposite teaching. When the pups came to The Mother for answers, she merely described them as "idiotic local fools. Whoever thinks that is quite stupid," and The Father agreed. Who would disagree with The Mother, and The Father? PupHood was a time of learning, and learn they did. Among teaching how to hunt, and all the basics, they were taught that females needed and should have the respect that mainly the males got. Once again, The Father agreed. The Mother taught that Alpha Females had the real power. Again, The Father agreed. But when she started teaching about how males were stupid...well...The Father could only put up with it so much, and one day, there was only The Father, and not The Mother. The teaching changed from females to males, and about how girls were prissy little things, and that they needed attention to better themselves. The pups were confused-- didn't they teach about the exact opposite? But they obeyed The Father, and the family took on the teachings of the one family they saw before.
Mid-Age. The four wolves followed the pack wherever they went, and The Father continued teaching and forming the young minds of Leo, Appios, and Acu. Acu, the poor girl, was demonstrated on when they were being taught that males were better, and Appios and Leo regularly teased her. The Father didn't mind-- in fact, he encouraged it. The poor girl could only take so much, and, after saying that this was a crazed and sexist family, took off to find another family or something else to live with. After all, she was old enough and had enough skills to survive on her own. And survive she did. The female was never heard from again, and soon the males forgot about her-- hearing The Father teach and teach, and teach. They were taught that the females weren't able to achieve anything other then what the males were told they were able to, and again, the poor minds of the little boys were imprinted on. When, finally, the males were allowed to leave, they did so reluctantly. The Father told them to remember everything he taught them, and soon they were off. Together, they set off, two brothers on a world-wide adventure...or something along those lines. They were born into a pack, so, therefore, they couldn't really go anywhere they wanted to, but still. Eventually, they ran into an old loner wolf. She looked at them carefully, and then set them down near her den.
The two males did as she asked reluctantly, knowing they didn't really have to. It was then that the old wolf told them all about the previous packs. The stories. They had heard they before, but never in such a detail-- as if it was more then just a story. They sat with rapt attention, and when the female asked that might they share their pasts, they agreed. Telling her everything, the female moved not an inch. Finally she spoke. "I've seen a lot of things in my time, and a lot of weird and strange things, but that is a load of poo." Startled, the males looked confused. Wasn't The Mother and The Father right always? The old female then proceeded to tell them that all genders were equal, and that, even if they looked different, they all had their strengths and weakness', and that one must not judge. Then she set them off again, and the males pondered what she said. Leo asked why they would be expected to believe this, for, surely, The Father was correct. When Appios was inclined to believe differently, there was a fight. And the two brothers separated-- going their different ways. Last time Appios heard from Leo was that he was a dark, smirking, and very...evil brother.
And that was how it was. Maybe not normal at all, but at least different from all the sob stories. Nobody ever heard from The Mother again-- nor the sister. But some suspect that they went to different packs who welcomed them. Who knows.

The questions seemed to be getting worse. They increased in intensity, and Appios could barely hold them in. The naive side of him wanted to ask them to any wolf he met, but he knew that somewhere deep inside him disagreed. Why was that, again? He knew that somewhere he should quit questioning his sanity before it got any worse, but he needed to know. They were perfectly good questions, weren't they? Didn't all wolves have those questions? And yet, now they weren't just average, every-day, 'why am I here' questions. No, they were, instead, specifically for him. Like 'why would you be here? You're worth nothing-- nothing at all. Your parents didn't like you, because they didn't show it. They didn't show it because they didn't want to.' He used to be able to battle these questions that they were stupid, and couldn't be used. That love wasn't needed in a family-- that it was simply a more simple version of a pack. Why else would he hear his parents never once display their love? They agreed frequently, yes, but they reminded him of pack members with other pack members. Not really in love.
This, however, wasn't the cause of such questions. The questions aroused from different causes such as that he was such a jerk, that he didn't have friends. The ones he did have were buried amidst how he treated them like...like dirt. Maybe this was guilt? What were all these questions, though? They drove his self-confidence into the ground, and buried it like a dead thing.
And his sanity. The questions had nit-picked him until he now worried about if he really was nothing. The near-pride self-confidence he had felt before was now morphed into a hideous beast of not knowing. I'm starting to get the realization that these aren't simple questions...but what would they be, then? Simple loneliness for who knows how many years? And now they're steadily building up-- to what, though? That was the question, really. Not if he was loved. But if this would lead to him slowly losing his sanity. Not enough to be kicked out or useless, but enough that he would seem to be slowly sliding down in this hole of his.
Shifting on his seat, Appios' black eyes scanned the frozen-white landscape. In a way, it was pretty. The river was, if someone were to fall in, would most likely die if not given heat, but still pretty. Beautiful...enchanting.
Before the male knew it, he was staring at his reflection-- right near the edge of it. Dipping one paw in it, Appios stepped in until it was up to around three inches deep. He wasn't empty enough to kill himself, oh no, but instead, he merely looked closely at his reflection. His emptiness-- the complete and utter willingness and submitted attitude of his. He could and would do anything, and for what? He had no one to come home to-- no family, no friends. And all of this was his own fault. It was why he made this work, this soldier life, his very own. His only life.
Flicking his ears forward, he watched the wolf in the reflection do the same. This couldn't be him...couldn't it? It looked like a cold, calculating, and very obedient soldier. Was that all he was? Did he even know what loving was? Did he even want to know? It meant opening the heart to something he had no control of...
Was that the problem?
Control?
"Am I such a jerk that I need to control other wolves under me? Maybe that's why possible friends slowly drifted away...but it couldn't be my fault, right? Of course not...
Slamming a paw down at the reflection, Appios hurried out of the water; shaking his fur to get all the little water droplets off. He was cold, yes, but the anger-- no, hatred-- towards himself made it so that he couldn't know it. The male was trapped in the stony fortress around his heart.
And no one would be let in.
